With their brand new full length ‘Talk is Silver, Guns are Gold’, The Better Offs shows a band doesn’t need an expensive studio to make a damn fine record. The quality of the songs will speak for itself, The Better Offs thought, helped by rising interest of press, bookers and audience.

After their first release ‘Smash Hits’, an 8 song counting EP released in 2004, the time had come to record a full length album to show the band had grown. Both at writing and playing songs. The Better Offs proves simplicity isn’t necessarily a sin. A three-minute solo with hammer-ons and pull-offs sure as hell does great at your nerdy neighbour’s birthday party, outside his room nobody gives a damn. Songs with tremendous power, energy, enthusiasm, tight-as-hell guitars and great, catchy melody’s already convinced venues like Waterfront, 013, LVC and Nighttown.

All this started in 2002, when 4 friends from the suburbs of Rotterdam decided it was time for them to start a band and make music in a way they wanted it to be: Fast, energetic, catchy and functional. Of course The Better Offs had and still has bands that influence them; NOFX, Green Day, The Ramones and Motion City Soundtrack are still major influences in their music. After a short period of time their drummer came along and filled an empty space. The time had now come to record ‘Smash Hits’, a well-received EP recorded at the Rocketdog Studio owned by the notorious Eppie ‘Berserker’ Hotz and mastered at the Excess Studio, Rotterdam (amongst others The Apers and After Forever). After this shows were played at Nighttown and Waterfront (Rotterdam), 013 (Tilburg), Paard van Troje (Den Haag), LVC (Leiden) and many other venues and festivals. Playing with bands like Janez Dedt. (Belgium), Chixdiggit (Canada), Same Day Service (USA), The Apers and The Travoltas.

Promising is exactly what Squash Records thought. It isn’t that big of a surprise that Talk is Silver, Guns are Gold (May 2006) will be released on Squash Records. Again recorded at the Rocketdog Studio and mastered at the Excess Studio. Listening to the record, one clearly notices the capability in song writing, arrangements and exactly how tight this band really is.

Strong points? Catchy music, an energetic and never-boring tight-as-hell stage-act and absolutely no fear to try some new stuff. Listen to Talk is Silver, Guns are Gold and you’ll hear 3 vocals, a synthesizer and a cello.

In May 2006 Talk is Silver, Guns are Gold will see the light of day. Expect a crazy release and The Better Offs in a youth centre, stinkin’ bar or huge venue near you very soon!
